This photo was taken a while back, but I remember it clearly.

It was a warm night in mid 2011; I had just moved back to Sydney after ending a long term relationship interstate. Life was strange, I was strange and the idea of not having to take anyone else but yourself into consideration, was strange. But these were the nights that shaped me. These were the nights that help me remember that I will always be Nicoletta Ross, 20-something years old and not giving a single fuck.

So without further hesitation, here is my introduction to my idea behind, ‘The Helminth’.

From a scientific point of view, a Helminth is a parasitic worm that feed of a living host in order to gain strength and nutrients thus causing weakness, malnourishment and inevitably, without treatment; death.

Shit sounds nasty, but I want you to think deeper. Think about the parallels between who you are and what you need in order to survive. In every sense, you are the helminth. Whether it be positive or negative energy or host that you feed off, you’re using it to grow.

The Helminth is an idea of darkness and light, beauty and horror, selflessness and greed. And this is the spot where I’ll be putting my two cents on it. Along the way you’re going to see pictures from my day to day life, thoughts, and bullshit.

But what I’m hoping every reader will get out of this, is truth, maybe some encouragement to do whatever it is you’ve always wanted to do, maybe you’ll visit this joint and read something you’re not down with and speak you’re mind via your own blog. I’m here to spark conversation, I’m here to provoke thought, I’m most probably going to piss you off and you know what? I’m cool with that.

Go against the grain and do or say what you actually think. Because The Helminth, is a place for the strange.
